I wanted to go to Coachella so bad in high school. It’s insane to me that I’ve never gone and funny enough went to Indio in 2020 for a Coachella-style birthday. This piece also pays homage to Black Native American women who don’t wear the “Western/Desert-inspired” outfits for fun but have direct lines to the true American land. This is why I incorporated desert plants and flowers that speak to the natural landscape of the West. I also gave her a blunt to represent the chill, laid-back energy of the Southwest. With Love from Chella is a postcard of frivolous, lighthearted joy.
